【Express】US Postal Service recovers delivery from China and Hong Kong on February the 5th.

According to CNN news, on the evening of February 4 (local time), the United States Postal Service (USPS) announced that it would immediately suspend the acceptance of packages from mainland China and Hong Kong until further notice. However, the delivery of letters and flat mail will not be affected.

Later on the 5th, US Postal recovers delivery from China and HongKong. And there is no announcement for the prohibition again. 

CNN and Bloomberg reported that, USPS did not provide a reason for the suspension, but it may be related to the executive order signed by former President Trump on February 1. This executive order removes the previous "de minimis" tariff exemption for small-value goods under $800, meaning that all packages mailed from China must now go through formal customs clearance upon entry. Additionally, this policy could have a significant impact on Chinese e-commerce companies that have rapidly expanded in the U.S. market in recent years, such as Temu and Shein. According to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the number of goods eligible for the "de minimis" exemption has increased by more than 600% over the past decade, with projections exceeding 1.36 billion shipments in the 2024 fiscal year.

Therefore, U.S. international shipping industry organizations have warned that suspending package acceptance could lead to rising transportation costs and severe delays. It is currently unclear how long this suspension will last. USPS and relevant government agencies may further clarify policy directions in the coming weeks.
